Want to See the Park Board Report on the Proposed Kingfield Dog Park?
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board met this week to hear a park board staff report on a proposed dog park in the 6th park district. Here it is!
Editor's note: This post will be updated as more information emerges.
Especially interesting in this report is the park board ranking system on page 25.
What do you think are the most important parts of this study?

From the perspective of the Kingfield Dopark task force (find us on Facebook at http://facebook.com/kingfield.dogpark or at http://kingfield.org/dog-park), it is important to note that the extensive site survey referred to (and begining on page 9 above) was conducted in 2001-2002.
Our own independent survey of sites focused on areas central to the interested citizens forming the task force (with residents of Kingfield, Tangletown, Bryant, Central, Regina, and Lyndale). We strove to account for potential erosion problems, public impact, and pedestrian friendliness for the widest and most diverse population possible. We also wanted to ensure adequate space for dogs to exercise, make an effort to play a role in crime prevention, increase the number of visitors to the neighborhood and the community park, and serve an area with a demonstrated need for such an amenity.
Although we agreed that MLK Park makes for a good potential location, we differed on the exact site, preferring to leave the sledding hill in the previous survey alone, and instead focused on a lesser used area (under 5% of the park) along the sound wall. The park itself has become contentious as a location, but we believe a solution can be reached to honor Dr. King and fill this need at Martin Luther King Park.
