Violent Crime Increases Slightly in Fifth Precinct

Compared to the same time last year, the overall crime rate in the precinct has dropped.

Minneapolis Fifth Precinct is on track for a slight increase in violent crime compared to the same time last year, although overall crime is slightly lower, according to the most recent weekly report from the Minneapolis Police Department.

An increase in robberies and domestic assaults account for much of the 15.6 percent increase since last year in violent crime in the Fifth Precinct. All types of violent crimes except homicide are higher than 2009 levels in the Fifth Precinct.

The precinct, which covers Southwest Minneapolis, Uptown and neighborhoods around the chain of lakes, is heading the opposite direction from the rest of the city in regards to violent crime. So far this year, the city as a whole has seen a 16 percent decrease in violent crime.

What happens to your credibility when you call a 15% increase in crime in one year "slight?" To me, it's more than "slightly" misleading, it's dangerous misinformation.

Thank you for providing this information, since we never hear anything from our 5th precinct CPS Amy Lavender.
