Friday night, Washburn High School will get to enjoy the fruits of all that spring construction with the homecoming game against arch-rival Southwest High School.
The game starts at 7 p.m., following the Washburn Neighborhood Festival, which starts at 5 p.m. on the mall between the school and the playing field. The festival will feature an nflatable jumper, face painting, hot dogs, Fat Lorenzo's pasta, kid's games and more. The field will be dedicated before the game.
According to WCCO-TV, the new, artificial playing surface will help prevent the kinds of twisted ankles and other injuries that the older, run-down grass field occasionally caused. The new turf's durability will also permit the team to practice on the same field they play on.
The field cost over $1 million to build, including a big grant from the Minnesota Vikings.

As I understand it, all MPS students interested in Hockey are funneled into the Novas, because of the amount of interest at the high school level. But I haven't seen any surveys of high schoolers. ;-)

Yes, Mr. Dziedzic is a great addition and is already working with the Storm. I hope this is a sign of things to come.
