A violent thunderstorm rocked Southwest Minneapolis early Tuesday morning, causing over 72,000 outages arount the Twin Cities metro area, according to information published on Xcel Energy's website. Only 75 of those outages were in Southwest Minneapolis, but more than 1,000 Minneapolis customers in other parts of the city were without power as of the time this story was published.
Most of those Southwest Minneapolis customers are estimated to have their power back by 11:00 a.m. today.

However, prior to the storm there were 3900+ SW Mpls homes without power from 10pm Monday night until approximately 3am, Tuesday. This was due to downed poles according to Excel.

Thanks, Renee! What brought the poles down, if it wasn't the storm? Did they say?

One of the most violent storms I have ever seen (we were one of the "75"). The thunder was constant and continual, sounded like huge jets flying over head. Uncountable lightening strikes due west. Luckily the trees on our block are healthy, so none came down. Good work by the power company. Ours was out for only about two hours.

Agreed, on both counts. I (stupidly) left a bedroom window open that night because our apartment was so stuffy. I got woken up 3 times by that storm before I realized what I'd done!
