Requests for New J.K. Rowling Book Explode at Minneapolis Libraries

The Harry Potter author's new book, The Casual Vacancy, is to be released later in September.

Harry Potter may have vanished into the past, but author J.K. Rowling is still around, with her for-adults book, The Casual Vacancy, due out Sept. 27.

In Southwest Minneapolis, you can find the book at Linden Hills' Wild Rumpus bookstore. If you’re looking to check the book out from Hennepin County Libraries, 140 copies are on order. The bad news? There are already 1,074 requests for 75 books.

If you feel like braving the waiting list, you can stop by the Washburn Library or the Linden Hills Library and look for the book once it hits the Bestseller Express shelves. It costs $4 for 10 days to rent a Bestseller Express book at all Hennepin County libraries.

The new book by the creator of Harry Potter is aiming this book at a grown-up audience.

More than 2 million hardcover copies of her first novel are set to be released simultaneously in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.

According to USA Today, the story is set in the little English town of Pagford, and revolves around an election after a member of the parish council unexpectedly dies. Despite the Miss Marple terrain, press materials describe The Casual Vacancy as "blackly comic … Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war."
