Readers' Choice: Best Beach
Where's the best place for fun in the sun around Southwest Minneapolis? Patch wants to know.
Minnesota may be better known for ice fishing than body surfing, but the state also offers plenty of summerime recreation opportunities.
This is the land of 10,000 lakes, after all, not to mention a couple of pretty famous rivers. And all that waterfront affords lots of places to take a refreshing swim, toss around a plastic disc or just ignore all that healthy-skin advice and catch some rays.
Now, critics may point out that there are only three traditional, sand-and-surf beaches in Southwest Minneapolis, on two lakes. To them we say, "Have you ever been to Paris?" Nominations will be accepted for places that get used as a beach—even if they're more grassy than anything else.
What's your favorite? Where do you go, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, to make like the Beach Boys and pretend you're in California or Florida?
Nominate your favorite beach hangout in the comments below.
We will take nominations starting this week. Nominations end July 9 and voting will be from July 23 to Aug. 17.

Lake Calhoun with the kids' playground next to it. My kids and I love going there for the playground and the beach.
