Do Police Have A Discipline Problem?

The civilian body that adjudicates police misconduct disputes says yes.

Minneapolis' Civilian Police Review Authority says Police Chief Tim Dolan is not following up on their discipline recommendations, and that they have "no confidence" that he would enforce discipline in misconduct cases. According to a Star-Tribune report, of 53 cases between July 2010 and June 2011 where the Authority determined officers acted improperly, Dolan imposed discipline in only seven cases.

The statistics came out as part of Dolan's annual evaluation. In response, Dolan issued a short statement.

"I have always strived to discipline fairly during my years as assistant chief and chief," he said. "I have no regrets regarding those decisions. One of my personal career goals is to be able to still say that, the day that I leave the service of the city of Minneapolis."

How about, I interact with cops regularly and sometimes they are great and professional and sometimes they are not. Like any profession or group, there are always some bad people that make everyone look bad.
