Parents Criticize SW High Swimming Pool Rennovations

Pool is district's only one.

Hard to see the action. Brand-new lockers already rusty. Too noisy.

Those are just some of the complaints parents are leveling at the newly rebuilt Southwest High School swimming pool, according to a new report in the Southwest Journal

“What’s our return on investment?” one parent told the Journal, shouting as she struggled to be heard over the noise of a Sept. swim meet.

The pool's redesign was shoehorned into the old pool space, the Journal says, necessitating several design compromises. On top of that, the facility has become a near-daily stop for the school district's maintainence staff, with a dehumidifyer breaking down repeatedly.

Why was it "redesigned" in the first place? Something dangerous or falling apart, or was $ burning a hole in somebody's pocket? Who received the contract to fix the pool? Somebody made some money here, and somebody lost some money. Did the students win or lose in this deal? Was the goal of a fine public education for all children forwarded by putting in a redesigned pool? Somebody, somewhere, is smiling about all this, and I suspect it was the person (or people) who made a tidy profit.

Really? You're trolling a local news site for leads? Come on, Chris----you proved your journalistic value when you incorrectly spelled your email address and used a smiley face. Way to go, professional!
