Update 4:02 p.m. 8/22/12: At a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson Sgt. William Palmer said investigators wanted to stress that this was an isolated incident, and homicide investigators have no other suspects at this time.
Update 2:01 p.m. 8/22/12: The call that brought officers to Minnehaha Creek was a ruse, designed to lure the officer in. Police haven't yet said a what the suspect's motive might have been.
Original Story 8:00 a.m. 8/22/12: A Park Police officer and a robbery suspect remain hospitalized Wednesday morning. The suspect allegedly stabbed the officer along Minnehaha Creek late Tuesday night, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
The officer and her partner had responded to a report of a robbery along the creek at Bryant Avenue South. The caller said he had been robbed at knifepoint by multiple people.
As the officer and her partner arrived in the area just before 11:45 p.m., they saw a man at the intersection of Bryant and Minnehaha Parkway. When they approached him, though, he allegedly stabbed the female officer in the torso. She is a four-year veteran of the force.
At that point, the officer's partner, a 10-year veteran of the force drew his pistol and fired at least once, striking the suspect. Police have recovered a knife from the scene.
As of 4 a.m. Wednesday, the suspect is listed in stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Center, police said. The injured officer was treated for lacerations and a stab wound, and was kept at HCMC overnight for observation.
“My overwhelming concern is for the injured officer and her family," Minneapolis Park Police Chief Linda Bergstrom said in a prepared statement. "We are very fortunate that these officers were not more seriously injured or killed.”
According to the Star Tribune, nearly 20 police and fire vehicles responded to the "officer down" call. A local who follows the Minneapolis police radio has posted audio of the call on Soundcloud, here.

I saw at least a dozen police cars shoot down Lyndale at high speeds with various siren noises blaring. We generally feel safe at our house but are deeply disturbed to learn about the incident last night. Best wishes to the injured officer.
