Nicollet Avenue Partially Reopens
Construction shifts south.
With a final layer of asphalt applied last week, the north portion of the Nicollet Avenue reconstruction project above 35th Street came one step closer to completion.
Traffic can now flow on Nicollet Avenue South between 31st Street and 35th Street, on what was, until recently, a giant construction zone. Traffic lights are not yet turned on, but temporary stop signs are in place as construction crews finish last-minute details.
Next week, work will shift south to the 3500 block of Nicollet. According to an announcement sent out by the city's project coordinator:
Next Monday, traffic will switch to the north side of the 36th and Nicollet Ave intersection. Thomas and Sons will begin removals and storm sewer work on the south half of the intersection. There will be no north/south traffic at the intersection while the south half of the intersection is under construction.
Next week, Thomas and Sons will also begin working on backfilling boulevards, sidewalk replacement and raising the manholes in the 3500 block.
Minneapolis Traffic may soon begin removing the temporary wood poles from Lake St to 35th St. Temporary poles may start to be installed in the 2013 project area. This allows for some work to be done over the winter months, ex. setting up temporary lighting and signals.
The project will be finished in 2013
