New Developments in Vacant Linden Hills Retail Space
The Bayers' Hardware building has been vacant since fall 2012.
With construction work evident within the walls of two once-bustling storefronts in the Linden Hills village, speculation is rife over just what exciting new businesses might be in store for the neighborhood.
Rumors fly that Zumbro Cafe is expanding into the former home of Linden Hills Florists, although the building's owner refused to comment on the space's new tenant when contacted by Patch. As of publication time, Zumbro's owner has not returned our call seeking comment.
Given the brisk business Zumbro does, an expansion of the breakfast-and-lunch eatery might seem only natural. What might not seem quite as self-evident, though, are rumors that downtown staple Brit's Pub is planning to open a branch in the Bayers' Hardware building. That seems less likely, given what Shane Higgins, General Manager at Brit's, told Patch over the phone earlier this week: "Absolutely not. There's no truth in that at all."
Whether or not Linden Hills ultimately scores a lawn bowling court in the near future, one thing is certain: hip home goods store Honeyshine will doubtless excite the neighborhood when Linden Hills Yarn & Textile moves to St. Louis Park later this year.

Great trails for a half mile ride or a century ride (100 miles), with lots of facilities (rest rooms, drinking fountains, etc.) along the way. A bike trip can be enjoyable for beginners and expert bike riders alike. You can use the tails to commute to work, leisure, exercise, go to events, or visit all the great places in the Twin Cities area (Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding areas). The possibilities are endless.

Assuming Phyllis is, indeed, right, here's another way to look at it: does Tommy T's serve every bike customer in Linden Hills? I'd think any bike shop aiming to move into Linden Hills would think that there's an opening. The big question, I'd think, is whether or not the market is big enough. Bike shops in this city seem to either chase the used or mid-range markets (think ReCycle), or the super-fancy (think Flanders). Given that Linden Hills' bike infrastructure is still in its infancy, I would worry the bike market might not be big enough to support two shops going full blast.

City Velo Exquisite Bicycles in Linden Hills, this will be a good thing because it is close to heavily traveled bicycling and walking trails around Lake Harriet. It can act as a Bike Center much like the The Freewheel Midtown Bike Center.
The Linden Hills Business Association should put up signs near the Bike and Walking paths and Lake Harriet Parkway directing people to Linden Hills and listing their businesses, just like the do along Midtown Greenway bicycling and walking trails. I suggest Putting one up near the Lake Harriet Bandshell on West 42nd Street and Lake Harriet Parkway, and another at West 44th Street and West Lake Harriet Parkway. Somewhere where the walkers and bikers can easily see the sign, and easily find Linden Hills businesses in Minneapolis Minnesota.
People line up in for ice cream at Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream Café in Linden Hills, but many more would go there and other businesses if they could easily find them.
They also should put up a display about historic Linden Hills along the Lake Harriet bicycling and walking trails, just like the do about historic areas along the Midtown Greenway bicycling and walking trails. I suggest Putting one up near the Lake Harriet Band shell on West 42nd Street and Lake Harriet Parkway, and another at West 44th Street and West Lake Harriet Parkway.

Linden Hills is crowded enough with carpetbaggers from the suburbs. If you don't already know where it is stay away. Midtown Greenway is NOT a neighborhood it's a retail destination.

overhead ,as in rent, will kill City Velo as it does most business ventures in Linden Hills. Anyone who know anything about the bicycle business knows it is LOW profit and high inventory costs.
