Major SW Minneapolis Road Closures Sunday

Sunday morning, watch where you drive.

Sunday morning, Southwest Minneapolis will be cut in half by a thundering herd.

The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon kicks off in downtown Minneapolis just before 8:00 a.m. and ends in downtown St Paul later that day. On the way across the river, runners, walkers, and wheelers will cut around Lakes Calhoun and Harriet, then follow Minnehaha Creek eastward before turning north to follow the Mississippi until the Franklin Avenue Bridge.

That means, though, that Southwest Minneapolis' parkways will be off-limits to drivers while the marathoners fly by. According to race information, many runners should be clear of the course around lunchtime. For real-time information about open and closed streets, the City of Minneapolis recommends that drivers consult its Permit Activity Map. A full map of the course is available here.
