Local Food Contest Needs Taste-Testers
Kingfield Farmers Market's veggie bake-off is Sunday.
With food trucks and great farmers, Southwest Minneapolis' three farmers markets are always a place to find great food. But this weekend, you'll get to do so for free, with the Kingfield Farmers Market's annual veggie bake-off.
Entries can be savory, they can be sweet, but all must have one or more kinds of vegetables in them. Taste-testers should show up at 10:30 a.m.to sample and vote on who gets two $25 gift cards to the Linden Hills Co-Op. Want to make something for the event? Email asstmgr@kingfieldfarmersmarket.org.
If you just want to go to the market for food, here's what you can expect:
Look for watermelons and cantaloupe this week, as well as apples and pears. In the veggie department, there'll be tomatoes, peppers (bell, sweet, and hot), cukes, okra, sweet corn, leeks, summer squash, eggplant, greens, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, and even some artichokes!
The Fulton Farmers Market will have the good folks from the Cooks of Crocus Hill, plus:
As usual, find all your favorites: eggplant, tomatoes, cucumbers, summer squash, beets, wax beans, cantaloupe, watermelon, salad greens, kales, peppers of all sorts, chard, basil, many varieties of onions, garlic, cabbages, broccoli, zucchini and, of course, sweet corn!
Last but not least, here's what you'll find at the Linden Hills Farmers Market:
