Living History Photo Tour: Southwest Lake Harriet Parks and Residences

Preserve Minneapolis held a walking history tour of homes near Lake Harriet Wednesday evening.

Frances Thornton advertised for picnic, boating and fishing parties to come out to her brick mansion near this spot at the southwest shore of Lake Harriet in the 1860s. Thornton eventually sold her 250 acres of land for $15,000 to Charles Reeve. The land made up 60 percent of what is now the Fulton neighborhood. Credit Zac Farber
This home was built in 1940. When Charles Reeve's home was constructed nearby in 1860, it was the only home on Lake Harriet. Reeve lived to age 99, becoming the oldest living graduate of Yale University. Credit Zac Farber
