Many acupuncture sessions can feel a little bit like doctors' visits. Just you, the acupuncturist, and a squishy table. At a new Kingfield acupuncture clinic, though, they turn that on its head.

Kingfield Community Acupuncture, which opened earlier this week as part of the Solomon's Porch Faith, Health & Wellness Center at 46th and Blaisdell, conducts all its treatments in a quiet, confidential group setting.

The basic idea, according to the clinc's website, is to create a supportive community to compliment a patient's acupuncture treatment.

The clinic's founders, Melissa Cathcart and Christian Fetsch, have many years of practicing acupuncture and alternative medecine in the Twin Cities under their belts. Fetsch also specializes in preparing traditional Chinese herbal medicines, and Cathcart has a professional background in midwifery and has taught numerous continuing education classes for alternative medicine practitioners at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

In an email to Patch, Fetsch said he and Cathcart were "excited" to start offering their services to the community. They will be holding "free days" on Oct. 2 and 3 for prospective patients who've never tried acupuncture before.
