VIDEO: Jill Biden Promotes President’s, VP’s Support for Women
The vice president’s wife spoke during a campaign stop in Hopkins on Friday.
Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, stopped by The Depot Coffee House in Hopkins on Friday to emphasize how her husband and President Barack Obama have supported women.
“I’ve seen firsthand how Barack and Joe stand up for the rights and freedoms of women everyday,” Biden said.
The “Women for Biden-Obama Grassroots Event” was part of a campaign tour through Minnesota, Michigan and Pennsylvania over the weekend. In addition to the Hopkins stop, Biden’s Minnesota visit included events at North Hennepin Community College and Macalester College.
Biden touted the Violence Against Women Act her husband drafted and helped pass in 1994 as an example of his support for women’s issues over the years. She also pointed out Obama’s signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 and his appointment of women to cabinet and judicial positions.
Democrats across the country have targeted women’s issues as a potential Republican vulnerability in a campaign against what they say is a “war on women.”
Republicans say there’s no such war. The same day Biden spoke in Hopkins, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann told an audience at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., that the Democrats’ claims are manufactured.
“And before I start, I just want to say a word about this concept that you’ve heard about called the war on women, the so-called war on women,” Bachmann said. “And I just want to say I think it has about as much reliability and truthfulness as Bill Clinton’s arithmetic.”
But Biden insisted there could be consequences if Democrats don’t show up to vote in November.
“So there’s so much at stake at this election, and I’m sure that’s why you’re all here. And for women of my generation, one thing is for sure: We know how important it is for us to keep moving forward to make decisions about our own healthcare,” Biden said. “We can’t go back and refight those same battles that we fought years or decades ago. We’ve got to realize how far we’ve come, and we’ve got to keep doing all of our part to make sure that we keep moving forward.

Are liberals lining up like they usually do when cashing their welfare and food stamp checks to convert to Islam? I bet the lines are around the block for this one. These loons are so gullible!

Your post is the worst of the extreme right: Baseless smears, fear, despair and innuendo used to drive a wedge and polarize the electorate. The Rovian method is dead. Give it up.
Thoughtful Americans work together. Fear and hate don't move us forward.

What an inspiring message to women and families. . . to all citizens of what is at stake in this election! Dr. Biden hit it out of the park when she listed specific accomplishments of the President and Vice President the last four years! As we look forward, there is so much left to do with regard to health care, education and the economy as well as climate change and the environment! The other side of this
campaign has a record of fighting and voting against every milestone that has been accomplished in the last four years! Paul Ryan alone has spoken out against women and families' needs as he outlines his austerity budget, cutting education, medicare, medicaid and support for the middle class families while lying about what his budget plan is in Congress. We need to reelect the President and Vice President so we can move forward not backward!

All I hear from the Dems side, is a woman cannot be stronger and stand on their own two feet. We are supposed to listen to what our government tells us and can not make decisions for ourselves unless the government intervenes. SOS Clinton, allowed a husband to cheat on her and she stayed with him. Not a fine example.

All I hear from the Dems side is that women are strong enough to make their own reproductive and healthcare choices. From the Republicans I hear that women should be limited in their choices and the government should be in the room between women and their doctors.
You're naive about how relationships work if you think Clinton "allowed" her husband to cheat on her. Most men who cheat don't request permission from their wives.

The social issues and the progress made for women is going to mean little if we don't pay down our debt, and we continue to borrow from China. If they end up taking us over, because we can't control our spending look at their views on women! I am a woman, and that should be the immediate concern! At least Romney knows how to make money and keep a business in the black, so he should be able to make progress paying down our debt. I can guarantee taking away women's rights will be at the bottom of his priority list! I think he will be busy enough for four years turning around the economy, getting large companies to spend all the cash they have been sitting on the last four years, getting small and large companies to start hiring again, and now trying to undo the foreign policy mess before we end up in another war! I think we can all see that rolling over and playing nice is not working! I love the media blaming that mess all on some movie when people were outside our embassies chanting " Obama that was for Osama!"

I don't know what you're reading but maybe you should read the recent Rolling Stones article about Romney - just so you can get out of the Fox Noooz bubble of misinformation. Essentially Romney would take a company, borrrow on it to the hilt, take the profts for Bain and ride off into the sunset with a whole bunch of money. if Romney and Ryan get in somehow, there will be the larges shift in money from the middle class to the rich. Notice how they don't say which loop holes will be eliminated. I watched Ryan hem and haw and avoid the question. He finally said that we'll all find out if they're elected. What kind of an answer is that? Do you like your mortgage interest right off? As for a woman voting for these guys? OMG What color is the sky in your world. Do some reading about the implications of Ryan's "Sanctity of Life" bill that would criminalize birth control pill. Would you like the option to take the morning after pill after a rape? These Republicans are so radical they want to ban it. They want to re-define rape. They have proposed or passed over 1400 anti women bills in this year alone. Do you care about that?

Sheldon Adelson, Romney's uber-billionaire casino owner and financial backer, pledged to give Romney $100 million -- or "whatever it takes" -- to defeat Obama.
Do you know why???
As Bill Clinton reminded us, sometimes the answer is as simple as arithmetic. So let's do the math:
According to a new report from the Center for American Progress Action Fund, Adelson will get $2 billion in tax savings from Romney in return for his support. And it will be paid for by every taxpayer reading this blog, so pass the word QUICKLY.
If Obama wins, everyone pays their fair share of taxes...including Mr. Adelson!
Tell me...
WHICH ONE IS MORE FAIR FOR AMERICAN FAMILIES?
WHICH ONE CAN YOU AFFORD?
Americans cannot afford to live the Romney-Ryan lifestyle without having the same personal wealth.
We can DREAM...but we know that it's not reality. Romney is still dreaming.

Fair share? You have some funny arithmetic. I'm guessing that since you don't want to publish your name your are embarrassed by your baseless accusations that you know are completely false. Here are some facts for you: In 2009 alone, millionaires made up 0.1 percent, or just fewer than 240 thousand of the 140 million tax returns filed that year. Despite their small demographic imprint, the magnitude of their contribution in paid taxes is hard to overlook. Over the past ten years, millionaires have paid 17 to 28 percent of total income tax returns per year.

You ought to see the list of uber-billionaires who give to Obama. But, you don't seem to think that there are any. Why is that??? Those include a donation - $2 million - from telecom billionaire Irwin Jacobs, $1 million each from Chicago media mogul Fred Eychaner, $750,000 from billionaire heir Jon Stryker, a big donor to gay rights causes, and $333,333 from billionaire media entrepreneur Haim Saban.

Karen, i agree. Jealousy is not becoming on anyone. Since the billionaires, pay 99% of the taxes already. We should thank them for spending late nights at the office, stressing about their companies & missing their kids special events. They pay their fair share in taxes already. The problem is that they are also the ones with the means to up and move their residences to an island in the Caribbean and buy a jet to fly back anytime they want. With the Internet and video conferencing, this is easy for them. These people have the means to get around the system. I don't have the money to spend on accountants to find ways to pay less in taxes like they can. Higher taxes are just going to push more of the rich out of the US, and more businesses are already moving their headquarters outside the US. I work for a large US company that has been in existence for more than 150 years. They have been checking out bids of companies to buy us from overseas. They are holding off to see what happens with the election. If Obama wins and continues on his current path, they will most likely sell out to an overseas company. How many more jobs do you think that will take out of the US? We will just become a branch location for them. If we don't stop spending, borrowing from China, & printing more money, which continues to devalue the US dollar, overseas companies are going to have a heyday buying up US companies at a bargain price as their dollars become stronger than the US dollar.

Romney is coming unglued and we're seeing inside him. Americans don't like what they see. He's not a leader. He's not that smart. He's a little man bent on becoming president and that just isn't good enough.
Americans wanted Obama. They got him. He's not perfect. But he's not Romney. We'll have him again because Obama has BECOME a GREAT President.
Romney does not have that ability and his ego stands in the way of changing. Sorry, Mitt, you don't get my vote.

CBS said Romney-Ryan cuts to Medicare and Social Security will be in the tens of billions of dollars because he won't tax millionaires. Said that they'll give seniors a voucher to take to the doctor. If you bill is more than the voucher, seniors pay out of pocket. The cost to seniors is much higher than we pay now..

I voted for Obama, but when someone at the head of a company doesn't do what they say they are going to do they get fired. In most jobs you set goals, and people are evaluated on how well they meet their goals. Obama himself said he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. He added more to it in four years than Bush did in eight. Obama says to trust his judgment about decisions just as Pelosi said she couldn't tell us what was in the Obamacare bill until it was passed! Shouldn't we have a right to know what is hidden in a bill before it is passed and robs $700 billion dollars from Medicare? I have a colleague in Canada. We do not want their "free" govt. medical system. To get an amnio at 37, it took over one month to get the test results. If you get the flu and need to go to the "free" clinic, you better have 2-3 days to sit there to be seen. When they had the President, House, and Senate they tried to ram everything they could down our throats without passing a budget nor paying down the deficit. Spend, Spend, Spend is their motto. Can you spend and not have to pay back the debt without consequences? The consequences for us are China buying more US companies and taking us over down the road as we become more in debt to them, and the US dollar continues to devalue. Trust me when I say I have friends who live in China, and we don't want them taking us over. The US just lost our AAA credit rating for the first time since 1917 on Obama's watch.

I also voted for Obama, but now it is clear that was a mistake. I do not want the country to go down the same path it has been headed for the last four years. In 2012, for the first time ever, I will be voting Republican in a Presidential election.
Sorry Obama, but "It could have been worse" is not a compelling argument for giving you another four years.

I don't believe for a second that anyone who voted for Obama would consider voting for Romney. The values, experience, and policies are so vastly different, and there is nothing about the Romney platform that corresponds to anything Obama promised years ago. And the comment about government-run health care is mythical. We're the only civilized country in the world that does not have government-run health care, and our health care system's results pales in comparison to the others, and the costs are higher.

I have spoken with colleagues in France and Canada who both tell me that 50%+ of their middle class incomes go to Federal taxes. That excludes the other taxes that they pay when buying food, goods, etc. Why do you think the people in other parts of the world, who can afford it, come to the US when there is something seriously wrong with them. They don't stay in their own countries and wait to die, because they can't get an appointment with a doctor for four to six months. My colleague in Canada has several friends who have driven to the US over the years for different medical issues to receive timely treatment here. If you make enough money in Canada, you buy private health insurance, so you can go to private doctors and be able to get an appointment and results in a timely manner. I'm not saying there aren't problems with our current system, but there have got to be better ways to fix the system. Those ways do not include buying votes by giving in to Senator's pet projects that jack the price of this program up to billions. That is why people disagree with this new healthcare tax.
You mentioned experience. What experience does Obama have running a business like the US? I see that we all should have questioned that in the last election instead of blindly believing that a man with little business experience would cut the deficit in half. Remember for two years, he had the House and Senate and did not contain his spending and worry about the deficit!
John Feia
6:32 pm on Monday, October 29, 2012
Remember, the Democrats did not have a super majority in the senate until July of 2009. Ted Kennedy died in August of 2009 and Scott Brown was sworn in January of 2010. Six months at most at having a filibuster proof majority. Oh and by the way, there were a record number of filibusters in the senate during the 2009-2010 cycle. Also part of the increased deficit is because the President put two wars on the books removing them from emergency spending status the the previous President had classified them as.
As far as comparing running the United States government to running a business, that is a joke. Businesses are created to create profit. that is not the role of the government. the government has to be run in a fiscally responsible way that is all inclusive to the social contract that makes up its essence. What has occurred the past 4 years is that a leader prevented a disaster that was well in the making. he did this with zero cooperation from the other side and in fact has been hindered from doing even better. Vote for Governor Romney and if your side is successful, you will have no one bit yourselves to blame for the results.

I agree. These people who claim to have voted for President Obama four years ago and are now going to vote for Governor Romney are simply trying to lend some false credence to their posted opinions. Look through some of Nicks posts (here and on other topics) and see the tenor of his message. You will see what I mean.

John, social contract? I guess I must have missed that in the constitution. You see it used to be a personal contract between neighbors to provide and help each other. This meant that churches and local citizense took care of each other. Now the democrats have continually burdened our country down by castigating rich people as the enemy and telling us to pay more in taxes while at the same time avoiding paying their own. It's also a fact that Republicans donate at double the rate that Democrats do. It's funny how the Dems are willing to take someone else's money for a handout but not their own. Getting govt out of every little aspect of our lives will increase the survivability of our nation. Like the saying goes; if your not a liberal when your young you have no heart, if your not a conservative when your an adult you have no brain.

I did not vote for Obama last time -- as I cannot vote for politicians who would steal freedoms and would advocate for the additional theft of one's labor to the benefit of chosen others. Obama has been almost exactly as I thought he would be -- someone more interested in making more and more people dependent on federal or state government -- while robbing from future generations by borrowing more and more.
I did not vote for McCain last time (wrote in Ron Paul) - but given the despicable nature of the Obama campaign and the fiscal ledge we are on - I will give my vote to Romney this time.
