As the Easter holiday draws near and spring is just around the corner, communities throughout the west metro are preparing for egg hunts and spring related activities in March.

Here’s a rundown of some of the events for 2013. Did we miss an event? Be sure to add the information to comments below! Please make sure to note – some events do have a fee and require preregistration. Activities and fees are subject to change by organizer.

Richfield Egg Scramble

When: 10 a.m. March 23

Where: Augsburg Park in Richfield

Who: Children ages 3-10

Details: Register by calling the Richfield Community Center at 612-861-9385.

Brooklyn Park Egg Hunt

When: 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 23

Where: Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center, 5600 85th Avenue North, Brooklyn Park.

Why go: Inside egg hunt, face painting, dancing and crafts.

Who: Children ages 10 and under.

Cost: $6 per child. Pre-register by March 18. Walk-ins accepted, if space available.

Easter Egg Hunt 

When: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 23

Where: Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 5005 Northwest Boulevard, Plymouth

Why go: Crafts, indoor egg hunt, face painting, games, puppet show, inflatables, Easter journey and more.

Cost: Free and open to all ages.

Bunny Bowl 2013

When: 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 23

Where: Brunswick Zone, 12200 Singletree Ln, Eden Prairie, MN 55344

Why go: Help support the Second Harvest Organization of Minneapolis. Fee includes 90 minutes of bowling, shoe rental, arcade game card, egg hunt and visit by the Easter Bunny.  Bring a non-perishable item to event and receive a free coupon for a game of bowling or round of laser tag.

Heron Egg Hunt

When: 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 23

Where: Carl Kroening Interpretive Center, 5114 North Mississippi Drive, Brooklyn Center

Why go: As the herons return to area parks, take part in a special hunt for their blue eggs. Finders of special golden eggs receive a basket full of surprises. Hunts at 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. are divided into age groups. Visit with live bunnies, chicks and goats in the indoor petting zoo from 10 a.m. to noon. Face-painting and learn about real herons.

Silverwood Egg Hunt

When: 1-4 p.m., Saturday March 23

Where: Silverwood Park, 2500 County Road East, St. Anthony.

Who: All ages

Why go: Staggered start times will allow for kids of all ages to have a chance to collect spring treats. Photos with the Bunny, musical entertainment and a variety of “egg-cellent” art activities for all ages. Hunts for children ages 0-4 will begin at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Hunts for children ages 5-10 will begin at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Eggstravaganza

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 29

Where: Elm Creek Park Reserve, Eastman Nature Center, 12400 James Deane Parkway, Dayton.

Who: Ages two and older

Why go: Games, live bunnies, crafts and treats. Bring your old hard-boiled eggs to dye naturally. Search for eggs, go on a spring scavenger hunt and meet a giant rabbit. Drop in anytime before 1 p.m.

Spring Eggstravaganza: Rock Hunt

When: Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30. Variety of times available, check the Three Rivers Park District website for details.

Where: Lowry Nature Center, 7025 Victoria Drive, Victoria.

Who: Ages two and older

Why go: Bring baskets and hunt for colored rocks or secret messages along Lowry Nature Center trails. Trade collected items for a treat bag. Bring camera for photos with the spring bunny. Make bunny ears, face painting and visit the spring animal zoo.

Egg Trail and Rabbit Habits

When: Friday, March 29 and March 30. Variety of times available, check the Three Rivers Park District website for details.

Where: Richardson Nature Center, 10145 Bush Lake Road, Bloomington.

Who: Ages three and older.

Why go:  Search for colorful wooden eggs and fact-filled rabbits. See live animals and find out which ones come from eggs. Match birds with their nests, create a craft, and have a tasty treat. Program runs 1.5 hours including a 0.5-mile egg trail and other activities. Trail winds through woods and past a pond where you can stop and listen to birds singing.

Albertville Lions Easter Egg Hunt

When: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 30

Where: Albertville City Hall, 5959 Main Ave. NE,  Albertville

Why go: Free Easter Egg Hunt along with a morning of other activities, including visit with the bunny, cookies, refreshments and goodie bags.  Bring your basket. Weather permitting- it will be held outside, otherwise in City Hall.  

Community Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Our Savior Lutheran Church & School

When: 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30

Where: The Excelsior Commons and Port, 1 Water St, Excelsior, MN

Who: Children ages 2-11

Why go: Four separate egg hunts divided by age group. Puppet shows, music and food.

Cost:  Free   

Spring Eggstravaganza

When: 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30

Where: Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Boulevard
Minnetonka.

Who: Children 10 and under.

Why go: Face painting, spin art, musical entertainment, a jelly bean counting contest, games and a scavenger–style egg hunt that takes place both indoors and out. The spring bunny will be on hand for great photo opportunities. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bring basket for collecting eggs.

Egg Hunt

When: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30

Where: Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Boulevard East, Wayzata.

Who: Children ages eight and under

Why go: Egg hunt, crafts, balloons, face painting, inflatables.

Cost: $2 per child. Register by Sunday, March 24 on the Wayzata Community Church website.

Natural Egg Dyeing

When: 1-4 p.m., Saturday, March 30

Where: Elm Creek Park Reserve, Eastman Nature Center, 12400 James Deane Parkway, Dayton.

Why go: Use natural foodstuffs to eggs. Bring a dozen hard-boiled eggs. Drop in anytime.

Cost: $5 per person.

Victorian Easter Egg Roll

When: noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30

Where: The Landing, 2187 Highway 101 East, Shakopee.

Why go: Make miniature basket, decorate a wooden egg, play games, check out old-fashioned toys, refreshments and more. Enter park through west entrance.

Cost: $5 per person. Reservations required. Call 763-559-6700 to pre-register.

Spring Celebration

When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30

Where: The Woods, 15825 95th Ave. N., Maple Grove

Why go: Visit the Easter Bunny and live animals.

Cost: Free

Easter Egg Hunt

When: 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 30

Where: Grove Christian Center 14320 93rd Ave N, Maple Grove

Why go: Baby lambs, crafts, food and eggs.

Who: Children ages three to 12.

Cost: Free

An Afternoon with the Bunny

When: 3-5 p.m. Saturday, March 30

Where: Eden Prairie Community Center, 16700 Valley View Road, Eden Prairie

Why go: Egg hunt, music, dancing, games and spring craft. Bring your own basket. Each egg group has their own egg hunt.

Who: Children eight and under accompanied by an adult.

Cost: $5 per child preregistered or $6 the day of the event. Register in advance at the Eden Prairie Community Center or Senior Center. Children under one and parents/guardians free.

Passion Church Easter Egg Hunt

When: 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday, March 31.

Where: Maple Grove Senior High, 9800 Fernbrook Lane North, Maple Grove.

Why go: 30,000 colorful, candy-filled plastic eggs

Who: While kids 12 and under take part in the egg hunt, all those 12 and over can participate in Easter worship with live music in the main auditorium.

Cost: Free. Preregister online or day of event.
