Coyotes Crash Party, Burglary Arrests, Stabbing: The Top Stories of August

Coming at the height of summer, August is usually a slow month for news. Everyone is at summer camp, the cabin, or out enjoying one of Southwest Minneapolis' many neighborhood fairs

Not this time—August 2012 has provided a lot of excitement for Southwest Minneapolis. Here are our five top stories from this past month. Did you miss anything?

  1. Coyote Invades Block Parties — National Night Out got pretty exciting for several blocks of Linden Hills residents.
  2. Officer Stabbed, Man Shot in Minnehaha Creek Parkway — A man lured two Park Police officers to the corner of Bryant Avenue South and Minnehaha Parkway with a fake 911 call. He tried to stab one officer, but was foiled by the officer's body armor. He then stabbed the officer's partner in the lower neck, and was poised to stab her again when the first officer shot the man.
  3. Cutest Lake Harriet Marriage Proposal, Ever — Young Blaine man uses sidewalk to win bride.
  4. Military Training Set for Minneapolis Skies — US Special Operations Command helicopters started training over the city on Aug. 26.
  5. Police Arrest 5 in Alleged Garage Burglaries — Two were arrested in a garage in Tangletown after an enormous spate of garage burglaries hit Lynnhurst and Tangletown.
