Car Burglaries, Bicycle Thefts Hit Southwest Minneapolis

June 18

A car parked on the 4000 block of Clinton Avenue South had all four tires and rims stolen overnight.

A bicycle locked to a five-foot iron fence in front of a Kingfield home was stolen overnight. The victim told police they think the perpetrator managed to jump the fence as they removed the bike.

June 17

Between 1:00 a.m. and 2:15 a.m., a brick was thrown through the window of a car parked on the 100 block of 32nd Street West. Unknown items were taken from the car.

Officers were called to the 4000 block of Elliot Avenue South on report of a burglary. The homeowner returned at 5:15 p.m. to find his front door open, but no items missing from the house. He speculated that his large dog scared the would-be burglar off.

An employee of Piccolo restaurant reported the their black Prada bag and its contents missing from an employees-only storage area. No other employees' property was missing, and police found no evidence of forced entry, but the restaurant's back door had been left unlocked.

A resident of the 3700 block of Pleasant Avenue South reported her car had been broken into overnight and an iPod and a GPS device missing from the glove box.

June 16

A visitor to Lake Calhoun returned to his car, parked at the intersection of Ivy Lane and Lake Calhoun Parkway, to find its passenger-side window smashed and spare change missing from the center consol.

A resident of the 4200 block of Chowen Avenue South reported his bicycle stolen from the house's detached garage. The door had been left unlocked, he said, but the other four bicycles in the garage were left unmolested. 

Between 10:00 p.m. on June 15 and 8:00 a.m. on June 16, someone broke into a Kingfield resident's car on the 3900 block of Blaisdell Avenue South. Cash and a pouch of tobacco were taken, but her Minnesota state ID left in the car was not.

As a CARAG resident left her house at 10:00 a.m. a stranger approached her and returned her wallet, saying he found it 3 blocks away. Credit cards and a driver's license were missing from the wallet. The victim believes she accidentally left her wallet in her unlocked car overnight, as her car's glove box appeared to have been rifled through during the night.

June 15

A Plymouth couple reported a stranger met on Craigslist took an iPhone from them as they tried to sell it, then disappeared without paying.

Officers responded to a reported burglary on the 3500 block of Aldrich Avenue South. No signs of forced entry were found.

June 13

A caller reported her cell phone had been taken by another patron at the 35th and Nicollet Super America station when she set it down on a counter while paying.

A pair of siblings got into an argument at a dwelling on the 5900 block of Nicollet Avenue South. As one left, they reportedly broke several flowerpots outside the front door.

A jogger at Lake Harriet reported her cell phone had been stolen from the trunk of her locked car.

A caller reported her credit card had been used fraudulently at Pump n' Munch at 4400 Nicollet Avenue South. The card has been canceled.

A locked-up bicycle was stolen from in front of an apartment on the 3400 block of Dupont Avenue South.

June 12

An Apple Valley resident reported her car window was smashed and glove box rifled through overnight while parked on the 3700 block of Bryant Avenue south. Nothing was taken.

A dog was reported missing, possibly stolen from the 4200 block of Bryant Ave South. The dog was last seen on a tie-out in the home's front yard. The dog's collar was still attached to the tie-out when its owners came to check on it.

A car's window was smashed in on the 3400 block of Aldrich Avenue South, but nothing was missing.

An ECCO resident reported looking out his bedroom window to see an unknown teenage male poking his head into his car, then walking away down the street. No information was available on damage to the car or what items were stolen.

An East Harriet resident reported someone forced open the driver's door on her car on the 4200 block of Fremont Avenue South. When she checked the car, a GPS unit was missing. 

An ECCO resident reported all 4 tires were taken from her SUV overnight, while it was parked in front of her apartment building.
