A Bike Thief's Calling Card: A Replacement Bike

A roundup of burglaries and other property crimes committed in Southwest Minneapolis during the last week.

Forgetful bicycle thief? A sudden stirring of guilt? Either way, on April 1, a thief removed a bike from the unlocked garage of a home on the 5300 block of Irving Avenue but left another bike in its stead. Another bicycle was taken from the open garage of a home on the 5200 block of Girard Avenue, but it wasn't clear from police reports if the two incidents were related.

April 2

Hakeem Okolie was booked into Hennepin County jail after a home on the 4300 block of Aldrich Avenue was burgled.

When a Tangletown resident returned to her home on the 5300 block of Stevens Avenue she found it was broken into and some of her property was missing.

A Lyndale resident was walking along 32nd street when a robber approached her, asking for money. The robber accepted a non-monetary payoff.

Officers responding to a burglary call on the 4500 block of Upton Avenue found a cut screen, a broken window and a “freshly broken bottle.”

April 1

A Brooklyn Park man was cited on the 3300 block of Aldrich Avenue after police saw him attempting to put a water heater into his pickup truck. The truck was filled with scrap metal.

March 31

A St. Paul resident found property previously stolen from her car on the 3600 block of Lyndale Avenue.

A Zumbrota resident left his truck parked in front of the 5500 block of Penn Avenue, where it was rear-ended. Pieces of glass and red and white paint were left at the scene.

March 30

A resident of the 1800 block of 49th Street West reported a burglary of her home.

March 29

A burglar forced open the service door of a home on the 4500 block of Grand Avenue with a pry tool and removed the resident’s property.

A resident of the 4200 block of Beard Avenue found $1,800 of purchases she didn’t make on her credit card statement. Her employer said they might have footage of someone using her card and would make it available to police.

A home on the 4000 block of Pillsbury Avenue was burglarized.

March 28

A resident of the 4000 block of Drew Avenue found her home burglarized.

A resident of the 4000 block of Blaisdell Avenue called police after photographs taken 25 years ago went missing. The resident said she did not know when the photos went missing, likely in the last two years. Police filed the incident as a “mysterious disappearance.”

A 16-year-old girl was cited for shoplifting from the Lyndale Avenue Kowalski’s. She said she had left her money in her car and was planning on paying for her purchase.
