5 Things To Do In SW Minneapolis Before The World Ends Friday

It's incredibly unlikely, but why hedge your bets?

The Mayan Apocalypse may be entirely apocryphal—see NASA for details—but just in case, here's Southwest Minneapolis Patch's shortlist for things you should do around town before the world ends. Why hedge your bets, we say, when you could have a lot of fun even if the world doesn't end?

This list just represents our opinion, though, so add your picks in the comments!

  1. Coffee — Southwest Minneapolis has some great coffee shops, but for a truly-amazing brew, why not start your last day on earth at Butter Bakery Cafe, The Lynn on Bryant, or Patisserie 46. Between the three of them, these joints have some of the best coffee and breakfast treats in town.
  2. Walk Around Lake Harriet One Last Time — Just for old times' sake, even if the Rose Garden or Peace Garden won't be nearly so pretty this time of year as they are in the summer.
  3. Wild Rumpus — This Linden Hills bookstore is a wonderful, peaceful place for kids to lose themselves, exploring the shelves, listening to stories, or just meeting the store's many animal guests.
  4. Eat Out — As we all know, Southwest Minneapolis has a crazy number of restaurants. But, if you're like us, you probably haven't been to nearly enough of them because they're too expensive or you don't want to wait in line. Throw those concerns to the wind!
  5. Dessert At Sebastian Joe's — Round out your last few moments before the meteor hits (or the earth's crust rearranges itself, or whatever is supposed to happen) with a quintessentially Southwest Minneapolis treat from Sebastian Joe's, available in their Uptown and Linden Hills stores and at Anodyne Coffeehouse, to name a few places.

Update 10:21 a.m. 12/19/21: If you're in the mood, you could also add Pizzeria Lola's End of the World Party to your list of things to do. Thursday night, show up in "your favorite outfit that you will never wear again," as the restaurant's Facebook page puts it. Best outfits (to be determined by voting on Friday) will win things like gift cards to Lola and other prizes.
